After he finds out that hardly anyone has remembered his birthday and his ideas for a new power grid were stolen by his colleagues at Oscorp, Max is forced by Alistair Smythe to fix an electrical problem in one of Oscorp's genetics labs. A cable has come loose in a vent. Max climbs into the vent and attempts to reconnect the cable, but he is unable to stop the electrical current going into it and it malfunctions in his hands.

He looses his balance and falls into a large tank of electric eels being used for experiments. While neither Marvel nor Sony have officially confirmed the casting, Foxx himself posted news of the character's return via social media, spiritedly announcing his part in a " Marvel new Spider-Man installment.

Electro was similar to a lot of Spider-Man villains in the early days of the Marvel Universe in that his power came from a freak accident. Though it wasn't scientific in nature as was the case with Doctor Octopus , for example , physics was involved. Max Dillion was hit by lightning while working on an electrical line.

This transformed him into a being who could generate and control electricity. He initially had to maintain a charge, which led to him stealing electrical equipment, including advanced technology from Tony Stark. While not a mutant, Electro was nonetheless recruited for the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants by its leader, Magneto.

Electro turned down Magneto since he wasn't a mutant, but he quickly launched into a career of crime. Not only did Electro steal parts and equipment to keep himself charged, but he also robbed banks and committed other petty crimes that put him on the radar of Spider-Man. Electro first appears in The Amazing Spider-Man 9 in , and he quickly becomes one of Spider-Man's most important adversaries.

That's cemented when he becomes a founding member of the Sinister Six, the supervillain team that assembles in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1 also in It doesn't work out for them, but it's not the end of the team by any stretch.

The Sinister Six isn't the only supervillain team that Electro has been part of. It's been teased that The Sinister Six could be featured in the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, so ideally, it would be awesome if Jamie Foxx's reprisal as Electro led to some major bread crumb that the Sinister Six is coming. It feels like all these movies are leading to some awesome conclusion, and with so much uncertainty in how much longer Marvel Studios and Sony will play nice with Spidey, I'd love to see them make an appearance shortly after Spider-Man 3 if not during.
