What was iago plan in othello

Iago, reacting to his wife's accusations, stabs and kills her. Iago is arrested and sent to trial after Othello wounds him he doesn't even die. Othello , facing the inevitability of his own trial, uses a hidden weapon to commit suicide.

The play ends with Cassio reinstated and placed in command as Governor of Cyprus. Iago therefore knows jealousy best he uses it to cause Othello's world to shatter, and to still his anger. This eventually makes him more a more dangerous jealous character than Othello , as his jealousy wishes for evil and revenge. Several characters die throughout Othello.

Iago kills his friend Roderigo and then he kills his wife Emilia for speaking out about what he has done. In the final scene, Othello murders his wife Desdemona by smothering her, and then he goes on to kill himself.

Throughout the play, Iago uses Emilia's close friendship with Desdemona to gain access to her and, in particular, asks her to steal Desdemona's handkerchief, which he subsequently drops in Cassio's house and later uses this as evidence to convince Othello that Cassio has been with Desdemona.

How Iago Explains the World. Peter Sellars, the avant-garde director known for staging classical plays and operas in joltingly contemporary settings, has once again aroused controversy with an unorthodox production of a canonical work.

The character who best exemplifies this theme is the villain, Iago. The duke gives Othello the chance to speak for himself. Othello admits that he married Desdemona, but he denies having used magic to woo her and claims that Desdemona will support his story. The duke decides that Othello must go to Cyprus to defend the island from the Turks. Shakespeare shifts the action from Venice to Cyprus.

A storm has dispersed the Venetian fleet so that Cassio arrives first, anxious for Othello's safety. Desdemona arrives later with Iago and Emilia. Iago tricks Cassio into speaking about Bianca , a woman he is having an affair with, while leading Othello to believe Cassio is describing Desdemona. Othello enters and tells Desdemona to give him her hand. She does so, and he chastises her for her hand's moistness, which suggests sexual promiscuity.

He then asks her to lend him her handkerchief. Some readers have suggested that Iago's true, underlying motive for persecuting Othello is his homosexual love for the general.

He certainly seems to take great pleasure in preventing Othello from enjoying marital happiness, and he expresses his love for Othello frequently and effusively. He thinks of a way to take Cassio's job away from him but at the same time, gives himslef some fun. Then he says he will make Othello suspicious of Cassio by telling Othello that Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona. Then he says that if Othello trusts him enough with what he is saying, he will easily be fooled. After this scene we can see that Iago has already started his plan by taking control of Roderigo by taking his money and making Roderigo look like a fool.

This proves to us that Iago is able to manipulate someone into doing or thinking something that he wants them to. This is exactly what Iago has planned to happen and Othello falls directly into the trap. In Act 2 we are introduced to Cassio. After finding out the war is over Cassio thanks everyone and says he hopes Othello will make it out of the sea.

Iago is able to get a sense of everyone around him and use their weaknesses against them for his own good. Iago knows that because Othello is a foreigner he has no one else to trust but him, he knows that Cassio is kind and treats women nicely, and he knows that Desdemona will do anything for Othello.

With this knowledge Iago devises a plan to break Desdemona and Othello up and make Othello dislike Cassio. By plotting Othello against everyone, he will be able to get his revenge for Othello not making him a lieutenant. Since it is a tragedy I am assuming some characters will die. I think that it is a similar theme among us for our blogs this week as we talk about the evil mastermind. He is wrecking so many relationships with such little motivation. However, I do think that he is what makes the play as interesting as it is.

I am just as curious to see how the tragedy ends! Alyssa, Great post about Iago and his malicious and evil tactics he portrays in the play.
