Deadman wonderland which character are you

This anime is definitely aimed at a more adult audience. It starts off with a bang so I was interested in it from the get-go. We don't get any explanation about the world, the setting, the event etc in the start. Instead, we get bits here and there in almost each episodes, this increases your interest about finding out everything. I thought he would be yet another wimpy annoying brat, but thankfully he didn't go in that department far enough and he grew on me. There is a lot of good action, cool looking powers and techniques and LOTS of gore.

Plus, the anime thrives at displaying it in a brutal manner. The soundtrack was decent too, which helped elevate some key moments. It's a crime that this anime was only 12 episodes long. They could have made it 24 episodes long and fleshed out the large character cast a lot because it just felt rushed in the later episodes. Also, it is sad to see there is no sequel for it since we don't really get to see a proper end of the story, many of the stuff is just laying around, begging for a sequel.

I hate it when this happens. Even though it doesn't end the story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some gory action and interesting setting. This anime would be much better if I were around 12 or 13 years old because I probably would not have been able to compare this show to others like Elfen Lied or any of the plethora of the wrongly accused jail movies.

Aside from being uninspiring, the real problem is that entire show suffers from a severe mismatch between plot tone and characterization.

The tone is depressing and bleak while the characters contradict this by being silly and comedic. It simply does not work because the comedy is not very good mostly just lame fan service stuff and the dark tone is not reinforced by the characters at all they are too easy going and dumb most of the time. Thus you cannot care for either. There are plenty of dark comedies out there but this one is not good enough to be either a comedy or a drama.

Imagine if Dragon Ball Z took itself seriously Same here. I did not even enjoy the 1st few episodes that most people seem to like.

Reckno64 29 March Allow me to start by saying this is NOT the worst anime of all time, it's just the worst one I watched in its entirety. Knowing there are worse out there, I will never see them, cause this one was incredibly bad in my opinion, and yes I watched every episode on Toonami back in or I went into it knowing it was gonna be incredibly violent, gross, and disturbing.

But this was on a whole other level of disturbing. I also went into it thinking it would be similar to the movie "The Running Man" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, ultimately an 80s B-movie that I loved. What I got was incredibly disappointing, and only continued to derail to where it became the most unpleasant anime experience I ever had. It starts off pretty weak too, with the main character Ganta voiced by Greg Ayres in the dub being accused of slaughtering his entire classroom. There is no evidence he could've possibly done it, but is accused anyway I guess we have to get the ball rolling SOMEHOW and sent to the prison "Deadman Wonderland" which is a sadistic theme park where the prisoners play deadly games to try and stay alive longer.

Again, very fascinating concept! The next few episodes where we are introduced to the main attraction, and they are probably the best episodes of the anime. There's a lot of creativity in this sadist theme park that although disturbing, did have me intrigued. That only lasts an episode or 2 unfortunately. Getting back to the many problems with this anime, we are introduced to a HUGE cast of characters and since there are only 12 episodes that make up the show, many of which show up for only one or two scenes and never again.

Never to be expanded upon. But the few other characters we do see include Shiro voiced by Monica Rial in the dub , a girl who befriends Ganta in a very bizarre sibling-like relationship. I kinda liked her for the most part as she was generally helpful of Ganta and his wish to escape, but her backstory is not clearly explained in the anime as I recall, and in the end she is revealed to be responsible for slaughtering Ganta's class in the first episode Big OOOF there Ultimately a plot-twist at the last minute that completely rubbed me the wrong way.

Another character we are introduced to in either the 3rd or 4th episode is Crow voiced by Patrick Seitz in the dub , who ultimately ended up being my favorite character in the anime. It did not save the sour experience I had overall, but it was the best thing about this show. After Ganta's class is slaughtered, he is given a power that allows him to use his blood as a weapon.

Crow also has this ability, and he is the first to fight one-on-one with Ganta and train him to use his new power, which is an important player in this anime. As he trains Ganta, Crow became one of the few characters I actually liked in the duration of this anime.

Too bad his eye is brutally removed in one of the most graphic scenes I've seen in all of animation. Yeah, that happens. Don't be ashamed to admit you turned your head at that scene cause I did too The one other character I liked was Leah Clark's character, Hummingbird. She and Ganta help each other out a few times, and it's one of the few "nicer" moments of this otherwise disturbing anime. I don't remember much else about her except for the fact that I didn't like her much initially, but she grew on me over time.

Now there are like 50 more characters in this anime, but none of them play as big a role as the ones I mentioned already. As the anime progresses, Ganta joins up with another group of people trying to escape. It's at this point where Deadman Wonderland really began to derail for me. A traitor working on the inside with the prisoners gives Ganta a bomb which he thinks is a computer chip or something like that , which Shiro realizes at the last second and tosses it to where it explodes but harms nobody which Ganta is clearly there to see.

Ganta proceeds to yell at her for some reason despite clearly having his life saved by her. I did not understand this scene at all and it really ruined Ganta's character for me.

In this anime's final episodes, the group of people attempting to escape put their plan into action and it goes Many fellow prisoners trying to make it out alive are instead murdered in the most graphic and disturbing way possible. Like I said, I've seen plenty of violence in anime before, but this anime makes it as utterly grotesque as possible and unless you are really REALLY looking for a show that's focused on being as graphic as possible, instead of one that tries to tell a good story, this show ain't for you But if all I've said wasn't disturbing enough already, the most disturbing part comes in the form of a character that is mentally tortured before ultimately being killed.

I don't even remember his name honestly, but everything about his backstory and further treatment made me so upset that I could barely watch the anime anymore. From what I recall, his wife and unborn child are murdered before his very eyes and lived his further life in denial. Then fellow antagonists which would be the prison staff torture him mentally to the point where he breaks down and goes on a rampage.

It is not fun to watch, and even after 5 years I still remember this series of events in gritty detail. I don't know why it's there for any other reason than "shock" value, which is what this anime prides itself on. I would also like to point out that little to NONE of the antagonists receive any repercussions for their actions.

The ones that deserve it most aren't even given the littlest consequences. I wouldn't normally wish to see my enemies suffer, but these people deserved it badly and they get away Scott-free. This is yet again one of the most frustrating aspects of Deadman Wonderland. At least in The Running Man the protagonists got payback on their enemies. None of that here, and I remember being so damn frustrated about that. The last thing that really put the final nail in the coffin is how it "ends". It doesn't really have an ending actually.

Things wrap up with some of the prisoners escaping not Ganta or Shiro though. We don't see where they end up, but we know they escaped. That's nice I guess. Ganta and Shiro are seen sitting atop a balcony or something and he tells her to stop humming something that brings back bad memories. I believe this is where it's revealed Shiro is the dreaded "Red Man" who slaughtered Ganta's entire class.

Great ending As if none of this was enough, the ending theme is this cute idol song that completely contrasts the tone of the anime. That probably was the point, but why they chose to do that is beyond me.

It's actually the least of my worries about this anime, but I found it too interesting not to mention. The voice acting as always, is great whether it be in sub or dub I watched the dub, and have seen clips of the sub.

The music, while it didn't resonate with me was also nice. None of it could make up for the terrible story, terrible characters, and extremely repulsive content. At least for me it didn't. Chances are you may have a better time with this anime than me. Quality wise I have seen far FAR worse media, but none of that repulsed me quite to the extent that Deadman Wonderland did. Give it a go if you dare, but if you are looking for something with decent writing, give this one a HARD pass.

There's much better anime out there. Through training, Ganta was able to evolve his ability, which allowed him to expel multiple blood bullets in rapid succession at nearly supersonic speed and create bullets that explode upon impact. The Ganta Gun is one of only two abilities in the series that sees such an evolution, making it an extremely rare ability with a lot of combat potential. He has the ability to change the shape of the blades, though he only ever seems to use it when they come from his hands, turning them into straight blades instead of scythes.

Crow Claw first appears as a strictly offensive ability that allows for the swift take down of any obstacle, human or otherwise, but is soon shown to be a rather versatile Branch of Sin. He can use the blades to perform defensive maneuvers, lengthen them to perform long range attacks, and by putting multiple small blades at the soles of his feet, he can use them to climb walls. In addition, he is one of only two Deadmen that has an evolved version of their Branch of Sin.
